Following the ODI series loss, Team India will face Bangladesh in the two-match Test series. The first match will be played at the Zahur Ahmed Chaudhary Stadium in Chattogram on December 14. Abhimanyu Easwaran, who has been consistent on the domestic circuit, was named to the India squad for the opening test after regular skipper Rohit Sharma was ruled out with a dislocated thumb.
Abhimanyu Easwaran does not play in the IPL, does not register for the auction, and prefers to focus on domestic cricket. The Bengal batsman has been named on the standby list for the World Test Championship (WTC) final as well as the tour of England in 2021. He is likely to remain with the Test squad for the second Test as well unless Rohit miraculously recovers quicker than predicted.

Dinesh Karthik believes Easwaran deserves to be called up in India’s Test squad against Bangladesh. The veteran wicketkeeper-batsman claimed that he is banging on the doors and will get his chance sooner rather than later. With players like Shubman Gill and KL Rahul at the top of the order, Karthik believes it will be difficult for him to break into the playing XI.
“Abhimanyu Easwaran has been around the circuit for some time now, has done really well and now deservingly gets his opportunity. He might not play in the XI because of KL Rahul and Shubman Gill… for sure they will open,” Karthik said on Cricbuzz ahead of the first Test match against Bangladesh in Chattogram starting Wednesday.
“I can promise you he’s another guy who has been constantly banging at the door. He has been a very good servant for Bengal in the four or five seasons. His dad is someone who has a fantastic ground in Dehradun, have fond memories of going there. That kid is somebody who has worked so hard, I’ve seen him, I’ve played with him, practice with him. I have seen how hard he works,” he added.
Abhimanyu Easwaran scored 5419 runs in 77 first-class matches at an average of 44.41. He was in excellent form during India A’s tour of Bangladesh. The 27-year-old scored back-to-back centuries in two unofficial four-day Test matches against Bangladesh A, scoring 299 runs in both matches to become India A’s top run-getter.
