Danish Kaneria, a former cricketer for Pakistan, believes that the Indian cricket team is slipping. After Rohit Sharma and company were dismissed for 186 in 41.2 overs in the first ODI against Bangladesh on Sunday, he questioned their brand of play (December 4).
It’s important to note that the Men in Blue lost the first game by a single wicket. Bangladesh was able to wrest victory from the jaws of loss thanks to an unbroken fifty-run partnership between Mehidy Hasan and Mustafizur Rahman for the tenth wicket.

Kaneria stated on his YouTube channel:
“Same goes for the Indian cricket team. It’s going towards decline because of the way they are playing cricket. Mehidy Hasan came and scored runs for the last wicket. He taught them that you speak about big things but fail to deliver while playing. They wasted ten overs in batting.”
He believed that when Rishabh Pant was cut from the team after consulting with the BCCI medical experts, India ought to have given wicketkeeper batter Sanju Samson a chance in the three-match ODI series.

“You want to play Rishabh Pant and don’t want to bring in Sanju Samson. You’ll only play him in one or two matches to shut the mouths of critics,” Danish Kaneria added.
Meanwhile, Kaneria expressed his ire at Fawad Alam’s exclusion from the Pakistan Test squad despite the fact that he has scored a tonne of runs in the current domestic season. After Azhar Ali left the Rawalpindi Test after scoring 27 and 40 runs in two innings, he questioned whether the Pakistani team management would treat him similarly.
“The same situation is going on both sides. They did zyadti (excessiveness) towards Fawad Alam, but he scored runs in domestic cricket. Azhar failed to score runs. Will you drop him as well?”
In the recently finished Quaid-e-Azam tournament, Alam scored 706 runs at an average of 64.18 in 10 games, including two centuries and five fifty-sixes.
Muhammad Wasim, the head selector for the PCB, explained last month why Alam was left out of Pakistan’s lineup for the three-match Test series against England. Wasim was quoted by Cricket Pakistan as stating in a media interview:
“He could not perform well in the previous three series.”
In four Test matches this year, the left-hander came up short, scoring 58 runs in six innings. Since he struck 185 against Australia in March 2022, Ali has only managed a half-century for Pakistan in the last eight innings.
