Indian wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant completed 4000 runs in international cricket during India’s first Test match against Bangladesh at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on Wednesday.
Pant, who came in after Virat Kohli fell, carted left-arm spinner Taijul Islam for three fours and a six over wide long on to remain unbeaten at 29 off 26 balls and help India reach 85/3 after 26 overs at the lunch break.

Rishabh Pant has scored 987 runs in 66 T20Is at an average of 22.43, 865 runs in 30 ODIs at an average of 34.60 and 2152 runs in 32 Test matches at an average of more than 43.
After missing the ODI series against Bangladesh, Rishabh Pant is back in action for India in Test matches, where he has had the most success.
The criticism of his recent performances in the Asia Cup, T20 World Cup, and New Zealand has come from all sides due to his poor form. In fact, since his match-winning century against England at Trent Bridge, Pant has not struck a single half-century.
White-ball cricket has been difficult for the 25-year-old, but he has dominated in Test matches, making hundreds in England, Australia, and South Africa during a four-year period. Pant scored two magnificent centuries this year alone, one each in England and South Africa.
KL Rahul, the captain of India, chose to bat against Bangladesh in the first Test on Wednesday after winning the toss.
With India losing players like Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, and Shubman Gill, Bangladesh was in control after three fast wickets. However, with a 37-run partnership, vice-captain Cheteshwar Pujara and Rishabh Pant have displayed some resurgence.
India must win both games in the series to keep its hopes of making the World Test Championship final alive. India has never lost to Bangladesh in a Test match.
