The reason is India’s 10-wicket thrashing in the T20 World Cup in October last year. But this time, instead of being overconfident, Rohit Sharma-led India are vying to ‘Conquer Asia again’. India are in Group A along with Pakistan and a Qualifier. Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Bangladesh are in Group B. One of UAE, Kuwait, Hong Kong and Singapore will join India and Pakistan in Group A.
In Asia Cup T20, India and Pakistan have faced off only once with India winning the match back in 2016. Overall, in Asia Cup tournaments, India have an 8-6 lead over Pakistan. Top two teams from Group A & B will progress to Super 4 round with India likely to face Pakistan again likely on September 4. Top two teams in Super 4 will play the final on September 11.
