Pakistan are hoping for a consolation victory in the third and final test of a three-match series at the National Stadium in Karachi. The Men in Green lost their first two matches in Rawalpindi and Multan by 74 and 26 runs, respectively. Former Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria has come out in support of Ramiz Raja, accusing the media of conspiring against the PCB chairman.
Following Pakistan’s poor performance in the Test series, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Ramiz Raja has come under fire, with speculations of his resignation. According to the reports, Najam Sethi is emerging as the frontrunner to replace Raja as chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board. Sethi resigned as PCB chairman in 2018 because of his differences with Imran Khan.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Kaneria stated that the Pakistani media have been unable to run their business because of Raja. The former spinner said Raja should continue as the PCB chief, as he’s an ex-cricketer with good knowledge of the game.
“Ramiz bhai is intelligent. He knows and understands cricket. Give him some time, he’ll do a good job, and he’s already doing that. Pakistani media has a problem with him. They want to remove him,” Kaneria said on his YouTube channel.
“Aapki dukan nahi chal rahi hai kya Ramiz Raja bhai ke hone ke wajah se? (Are you not able to run your business because of Ramiz Raja?) Najam Sethi will come, and your work will resume again?” he added.
Raja has held the post since September 2021 after being nominated by the former prime minister and cricketer Imran Khan, and Pakistan has performed well during his tenure. The Babar Azam-led side reached the semi-finals and finals of the last two T20 World Cups but lost the Test series against Australia and England at home.
Kaneria believes Raja should not be blamed for the flat pitches in Rawalpindi and Multan. He stated that the hosts can’t compete with the opposition on green tracks, so the groundsmen have been instructed to prepare the pitches accordingly.
“You’ll get similar wickets in Pakistan’s home series whether Najam Sethi or Ramiz Raja or XYZ is the chairman. Nobody will give you grass because they know our team will fail on those tracks.”
“There’s no mistake from the PCB chairman; it’s Pakistan’s history; groundsmen are told to create supporting tracks. Don’t blame,” Kaneria concluded.
