With the World Test Championship final on the line, Pakistan are hosting England in a three-match Test series, with the first game scheduled to be played at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Thursday, December 1. Pakistan’s Test series against England is their fifth in the current WTC cycle; their final series will be two Tests against New Zealand at home in December 2022 and January 2023.
England are touring Pakistan’s first Test series after 17 years. They last toured Pakistan in 2005, when they lost 2-0 and Michael Vaughan captained the side. There was a bit of uncertainty regarding the start date of the match because an outbreak of the virus affected many of their players, but the visitors eventually fielded an XI in time.

England won the toss in Rawalpindi and opted to bat first, setting a record in just the first session of the innings in this historic match. English openers Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett put up 174/0 in the first session, breaking the record for most runs scored in a test match first session. They have broken India’s four-year-old record of 158 in 27 overs against Afghanistan. England reached the same score in 23.3 overs. Both openers were unbeaten at lunch on day one, with 91 and 77 runs, respectively.
Crawley was nine runs short of becoming England’s first batsman to make a century before lunch on the first day of a Test match. Only four Australians, one Pakistani, and one Indian have held this record in the 145-year history of Test cricket. After lunch, the right-handed batter completed a quick-fire century on the first day of the Test match.
Duckett, who was playing his first test in six years, was equally aggressive and scored his first test century. Pakistan’s pacers Haris Rauf and Mohammad Ali, spinner Zahid Mahmood, and batter Saud Shakeel all received their first Test caps, while England debuted Liam Livingstone and Will Jacks.
