England registered their first Test series win on Pakistani soil since 2000 after beating Pakistan by 26 runs in the second Test at the Multan Cricket Stadium. They won the series with one match to spare and took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. England pacer Mark Wood came up with a humorous joke of his own in response to Shoaib Akhtar’s comment that “he has to pull trucks” to generate pace.
Mark Wood’s bowling made the difference in the second Test in Multan between Pakistan and England. When 157 runs were needed to win, Saud Shakeel and Mohammad Nawaz put on an 80-run partnership to give Pakistan hope. After lunch, Wood bowled a fiery spell to dismiss Shakeel for 94 and then Nawaz, causing a collapse and finishing his bowling with 4/65.

The 32-year-old, one of the fastest bowlers in the world, may not be as fast as Shoaib Akhtar, but he still managed to deliver for his team in the subcontinent conditions. Wood was pleased to emulate Akhtar in front of a packed-out Multan crowd.
“I didn’t bowl any stumps out… he said if I wanted to bowl 100mph, I needed to pull trucks. He doesn’t know how weak I am. I can’t pull any truck. But it’s great to replicate someone like him. The crowd have been amazing, they love fast bowling in Pakistan off the back of guys like Shoaib… so it’s nice to get that reception,” Wood said.
Earlier, former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar stated that Mark Wood is capable of clocking 100 mph. The Rawalpindi Express suggested that Wood be pulling trucks to generate more pace to his bowling.
“A couple of things I have noticed. He loses his follow-through. Thank god he shortened his run-up. He lands on the left foot, and you see often he collapses on the pitch because he cannot control the follow-through. If he is thinking that he cannot bowl more than 155, he is absolutely wrong there! If he wants to bowl 100mph, he needs to start pulling trucks,” Akhtar had told The Telegraph in an interview.
