England registered their first Test series win on Pakistani soil since 2000 as they won the series with one match to spare and took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. The Ben Stokes-led team beat the Men in Green by 26 runs in the second Test at the Multan Cricket Stadium on Monday, December 12.
Former Pakistan cricketers Waqar Younis and Kamran Akmal have criticized the third umpire’s decision to dismiss Saud Shakeel during Pakistan’s second innings. Shakeel became the highest run-scorer for Pakistan in the second innings, scoring 94 runs off 213 balls. The southpaw’s dismissal changed the complexion of the match as Ollie Pope took a low diving catch behind the stumps off Mark Wood.

Former Pakistan fast bowler Waqar Younis was shocked by third umpire Joel Wilson’s decision to dismiss Shakeel. Cricketer-turned-commentator stated that the ball had clearly hit the ground as the Pope’s fingers were pointing down when the ball hit the turf.
Waqar wrote on his Twitter handle, “Wonder which finger Joel Wilson (Tv umpire) saw under the ball. Fingers were pointing downward when ball hit the turf”

The incident took place in the 94th over of Pakistan’s second innings against England. Shakeel fought bravely for nearly 5 1/2 hours, scoring 94 runs off 213 balls. Just before the lunch break, Mark Wood trapped the left-hander down the leg side, and Pope claimed a low catch to his right to reduce Pakistan to 291/7.
On-field umpires Aleem Dar and Marais Erasmus were unsure of the decision before sending it to third umpire Joel Wilson, who gave the soft signal as ‘out’. Even though the ball appeared to have touched the ground at one point, Joel Wilson took a long look at the replays, and another angle suggested Ollie Pope’s gloves were wrapped around the ball.

“Looks like the gloves are under it, but I can’t tell exactly,” Wilson said. There was no conclusive evidence to overturn the soft signal.
