WTC Race to FINAL – IND vs BAN Highlights: It is a good day for Indian cricket. First they cleared their first hurdle in making it to the ICC World Test Championship 2021-23 final by defeating Bangladesh by 188 runs in the 1st Test in Chattogram. A few hours later, Australia thrashed South Africa in Brisbane and helped India move to the second spot. The mission isn’t over yet, as India require to win a minimum of four out of their remaining five matches to advance to the WTC Final 2023. After the win in Chattogram, India had gone past Sri Lanka and leapfrogged to the third position in the points table. However, South Africa’s massive loss to Australia in Brisbane meant that India with 55.77 PCT and a total of 87 points went past the Proteas and are now at the second position.  During the 2021-23 cycle, India has played 7 matches, won four and lost two games. This is the fifth series, India is participating in the cycle. Australia continues to be at the top spot with 76.92 PCT and has also strengthened their position in the points table

The recent results – Australia hammering West Indies 2-0 at home and England beating Pakistan in their backyard has shook up things in the points table. However, four teams are still in contention, with Australia having their nose ahead at the moment.
Team India can only focus on what’s under their control and not worry about what others are doing.
Their first task would be to register 2-0 series win over minnows Bangladesh in their backyard. The Tigers have shown excellent improvement in white-ball cricket over the years, but their credentials in test cricket are yet to be established.
Apart from some good wins, Bangladesh has yet to put up a team performance in red-ball cricket. Team India has its own share of issues, to begin with players battling injuries. For them, the roadmap is pretty clear moving ahead.

It is an important series for Team India, with their hopes of a WTC final appearance hanging in the balance. India need to win all of their remaining five games to stand a chance to play the summit clash at the Oval. The start has been a good one, and it is all about maintaining the momentum from here on.
